Name: Michael Weglin
Team: Kyoto Motorsport
Tag: Kyoto | Wiggles
Country: USA
Michael “Wiggles” Weglin discovered motorsports early, starting on dirt bikes and quads at age seven. His competitive drive led him to the United States Air Force as a Jet Engine Mechanic, where he sharpened his technical skills and attention to detail. While stationed in Alaska, a 2005 Subaru WRX STI became his first true project car and his classroom for learning vehicle dynamics in harsh winter conditions.
A serious back injury forced the sale of the STI and eventually resulted in a 100% disability rating, but it did not end his passion for driving. Michael reignited that passion with a 2022 Toyota GR86 and a safe path into drifting through sim racing. In December 2025, he picked up a Logitech G920, built a custom wooden cockpit, and dove into Assetto Corsa—logging over 1,000 hours of focused seat time in his first year.
Through relentless practice, online competitions, and equipment upgrades to a Simagic wheel base and pedals, Michael’s progression accelerated. He now mentors other drivers, sets strong lead runs in sessions, and plays an active role in developing Kyoto Motorsport’s drifting program. His analytical mindset, shaped by years in the military improving processes, training airmen, and optimizing operations, directly informs his methodical approach to sim drifting and coaching.
Proud to represent Kyoto Motorsport, Michael is dedicated to continuous improvement, innovation, and elevating his teammates. His recent collaboration with an international real-world drifter—delivering measurable gains in qualifying performance and race positioning—shows how his sim-based expertise translates into real-world results. Looking ahead, he aims to compete at the highest levels of sim drifting while building a pathway into future real-world motorsport opportunities.

James Smith
is a dedicated sim racing enthusiast, streamer, and team leader from Talladega, Alabama. Known across Xbox and PlayStation platforms, he has built a reputation for determination, consistency, and competitive skill within the racing and gaming community.
Using a Logitech G920 wheel with shifter and pedals, James has developed his craft through discipline and seat time, always pushing himself to improve as both a driver and a leader. He previously served as the driving lead for Xbox, guiding a squad of drivers while also standing out as one of the team’s top five drivers. Alongside racing, he streams regularly on Twitch, connecting with audiences through gameplay and his passion for motorsports culture.
James’ love for cars began early, inspired by his father, who taught him about car brands and models everywhere they went. That early influence grew through car magazines and a deep appreciation for automotive culture, eventually leading James into sim racing as a way to sharpen his skills and pursue his dream of becoming a recognized drift driver. His favorite car is the iconic 1990s Mazda Miata NA, and he is especially drawn to legendary Japanese drift culture and technical courses that demand commitment, style, and control.
What sets James apart is his mindset: he does not give up, and he always keeps his head high. He sees the future clearly — building a life centered on family, hard work, and a project car for the track — while continuing to chase his long-term dream of competing at the highest level and earning his place on the podium. For James Smith, sim racing is more than a hobby; it is a proving ground for the life he is determined to build.
